EMPIRE
When thinking about New York City the first thing comes to mind is the tallest building - Empire State Building. It’s where you find the best of what NYC has to offer. The Empire State Building is a 102-story, Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. It’s an American cultural icon and a symbol of NYC. The building was originally a symbol of hope in a country devastated by the Depression, as well as a work of accomplishment by newer immigrants. |
ESCAPE
In the movie West Side Story – a riff on Romeo and Juliet set in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of New York’s Upper West Side in the 1950s – the star-crossed lovers court each other not from a balcony, but on a New York fire escape. These days, fire escapes remain a popular place for residents without a backyard to barbecue on, or transform them into colourful potted gardens filled with flowers and herbs. |
FIND YOUR WAY
The skyscrapers, the people, the cabs, the shops and restaurants — it was like I had a high from the city that felt like it would never go away. But the buzz wears off after you’ve been here for a while. You get caught up in your day-to-day life: work, home, favorite restaurant / bar, sleep. Wake up, do it again. I have to keep reminding myself not to get lost in my day-to-day movements. Look up to remind yourself of this amazing city, and do something new. Explore, always. |
